When you’re feeling chilly, it can be helpful to eat foods that are thermogenic (produce heat).
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is perfect in hot cider on a cold night. Cinnamon helps to dry dampness in your body and boosts your metabolism which generates heat. If you’re suffering from poor circulation and often feel cold, cinnamon may be helpful in warming you up.
Other mild spices such as nutmeg and paprika can warm you up as well. However, stay away from “hot” spices. When your food gets too spicy, you sweat, which releases heat from your body. (This is why the hottest climates often have the spiciest foods.)
Ginger
Ginger can improve circulation to all parts of your body. Along with its thermogenic benefit, ginger boosts your digestive and immune systems, helping you stay strong against colds and flu.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is not only thermogenic, it’s also known for increasing immunity and improving healing.
Green Tea
With both caffeine and catechins, Green Tea is thermogenic. It’s also known to be a great antioxidant.
Black Pepper
Black pepper contains piperine, which has been shown to be thermogenic by stimulating your body’s nervous system.
