When Is It Time for New Insulation?

Insulation. It’s imperative. In fact, ineffective insulation can cause a myriad of problems on the temperature and air quality of your home or office space. Without it, our energy bills would be, well… through the roof (pardon the pun). How do you know, though, when it’s time to purchase insulation for the first time or when it’s time to replace?

Replace Insulation During a Major Remodel

Chances are that your home may be in need of more insulation even before you start your remodel, as the average home is not properly insulated or up to U.S. Department of Energy Standards. Remodeling is the perfect time have an insulation expert look at the existing insulation and make a recommendation for how much additional insulation your new remodel will need to keep your home effective and efficient.

Mold in Attic at RoofWater Damage is a No-Brainer! Replace Your Insulation

Living in Florida, we are well-versed in rain, floods, and moisture. These weather woes can cause water to leak or seep into our homes and dampen existing insulation. When there are heavy rains or flooding, water often infiltrates the insulation, resulting in mold and generally ineffective insulation. Anytime there is any water leakage or damage, new insulation is recommended. All in all, it’s important to remember that damage or wear to your insulation can occur without your knowledge. It is strongly recommended that you have occasional checks done by a professional and, if needed, upgrade or replace. In the end, it’s critical to the continued health your home and family…not to mention your wallet.

When You Add Rooms to Your Home Look at Your Insulation and Ductwork

Adding rooms or any new areas to your home is obviously a time when insulation is needed. The larger your home, the more square footage there is to heat and cool. The better you insulate, the lower your overall heating and air conditioning bills will be. To learn the different types of insulation and what makes the most sense for your new addition, consult with us at Wentzel’s Heating and Air and one of our professionals will be able to assess your individual situation and help you evaluate your options. This is also an important time to review your ductwork; this includes the size, layout and number of registers. You could be creating a big problem if you don’t look at the big picture.

Infestation in Your Insulation

Any kind of pest infestation in your home will require an insulation replacement. Rodents, snakes, and even bats have been known to shack up in a residential attic or crawl space. Even after they are “evicted”, they often leave feces, urine or (say it isn’t so!) babies in your insulation. It’s possible that these types of pests can be shacking up in your attic without your knowledge, so the occasional DIY inspection or by a professional can pay dividends in the long run. To prevent this have a pest removal expert look for places where pests can get into your house. Even a small hole in a wall or at the corner of a door is enough.

General Wear or Age

Any house that is more than 10 years old may not be up to contemporary professional standards as set forth by the U.S. Department of Energy. Chances are that you are in need of new insulation in part, if not all, of your home. The good news is that once you have the proper amount and type installed, you likely won’t need it again for quite some time and the immediate return of reduced energy bills will be worth your while in long run!

Our technicians are available to help with any questions you may have or suggestions you may need in the process of acquiring or upgrading insulation. Feel free to give us a call and one of our trained HVAC professionals are happy to consult you!
