Did You Know? Air Conditioning in Ancient Times!

The basic concept behind air conditioning (turning liquid into gas and back again) was implemented in ancient times.

In Ancient Egypt, water trickled down reeds hung in windows. As this water evaporated, it cooled the air blowing into the window.

In Ancient Rome, water from aqueducts circulated through walls to cool houses.

In Medieval Persia, cisterns and wind towers were used to cool buildings.

In 1911, the first large-scale electrical air conditioner was invented by Willis Carrier.

In the 1920s, the first residential air conditioners appeared.
