Hopefully, you’ve made it through the hottest months without any problems from your air conditioning unit! Now that the kids are getting ready to go back to school is a good reminder to start this year with a clean slate, and a clean air conditioning system.

It is time for an HVAC Checkup!

Our AC Maintenance plan includes testing and inspection of your AC Unit by one of our certified air conditioning technicians every 6 months keeping your system running smoothly.

Here are some things you can do yourself which can help.

• Replace the air filter- this should be done every 3 months, but if you’re not sure when it was last changed, now is the perfect time! If you have allergies or pets; change your filters every 1 – 2 months.
• Check any exposed ductwork for wear and tear– Gaps in ductwork can lead to inefficiency and loss of air flow
• Test the thermostat– Make sure the thermostat is working properly and reading the correct temperature
• Inspect the refrigerant lines between outdoor unit and the house– Replace if leaking or broken
• Make sure the outdoor unit is on solid ground– Soft earth beneath the unit can cause issues, ensure the ground is firm and level
• Clear the outdoor unit of any debris– While you are inspecting the area around the outdoor unit, make sure there are no leaves or twigs interfering with the system
• Give the outdoor unit space– Trim or cut back any growth within 2 feet of the unit
• Check the air vents (registers) within the home– Ensure that the vents are not blocked by furniture or drapes, never close more than 20% of registers at once
• Clean the drain pans– this will prevent overflow and freezing of condensation
• Check electrical connections– make sure there are no loose connections or damaged wires
• Replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector– When you switch to heating, CO can become an issue if the system is not working properly. Ensure your safety by replacing the batteries yearly.
