AC Repairs to Prevent AC Replacement

AC Repair ToolboxProfessional AC repairs and maintenance can lengthen the life of your air conditioner. For best performance, air quality and comfort, it’s important to have your AC system serviced regularly.

In most cases, an AC maintenance contract with a reputable company will keep your AC healthy for years to come. However, if you are DIY-er, there are several things you can do on your own to extend the life of your air conditioner. Caution: Before doing any repairs, switch off the power to your AC. If you absolutely need air conditioning replacement we can help you and well show you exactly why so you can be sure that it is justified and cost effective.

AC Repair: Dirty Air Filter

If your air filter is dirty, so is the air you breathe. The air filter is one of the most important components of your air conditioning system. The filter cleans the air in your home, and regular cleaning prevents the onset of fungi, bacteria, and more.

To repair a dirty air filter, first remove the casing that encompasses it. Then remove the filter and clean it with a cloth, along with non-abrasive soap and water. Make sure the filter is completely dry before reattaching it to your AC unit.

AC Repair: Dirty Air Ducts

It’s important to clean the air ducts regularly with a vacuum cleaner. Regular cleaning helps to remove obstacles, debris and dust particles that get stuck in the ducts.

AC Repair: Dusty Condenser Fan

If the condenser fan is dusty, clean it with a brush. Remove the cover and detach the setscrew holding the fan in place. Cleaning your condenser fan helps to prevent any serious technical issues with the condenser.

AC Repair: Dry Oil Fan Motor

It’s important to keep your fan motor lubricated. Remove the condenser fan to gain access to the oil ports. Lubricate the fan motor with oil from the manufacturer.

AC Repair: Dirty Condenser Coils

Remove the coil guard, then clean the condenser coils with a garden hose.

AC Repair: Dirty Fins

Clean the fins with the fin comb. If the fins are bent, straighten them with the fin comb, too.
