About Your Air Conditioning System’s Heat Pump & Air Compressor
Heat Pumps are one of the more expensive items in your heating and cooling system. Air Compressors are the work horse of your heat pump. By compressing the refrigerant they put energy into the liquid. When the pressure is released energy is released cooling the liquid so it can go into the cooling coil to cool the air in your home. The compressor has several moving parts which need to be maintained and inspected to ensure that everything is working correctly and efficiently.
What to do if your cooling coil shows signs of condensation?
Cooling coils are a hidden part of your air conditioning system; they are usually hidden in a closet where you can’t really see what they do. Simply put the cold refrigerant from outside comes into the house through insulated tubing and inside the unit the coils go back and forth across the airstream coming from the fan. If your filter is wet when you pull it out from under the unit or the floor is wet below the unit, you are getting extra condensation from inside the unit. The most common problem is a dirty cooling coil. If your filter is not doing a good job dust, pollen and pet hair will collect on the coil forcing it to work harder to cool and dehumidify your home. Inspecting the coil every six months and cleaning it before it gets to be a problem will save you money on your electric bill.
